Michael Tippett School, London

Michael Tippett School, London

Michael Tippett School is the first school in London to be built under the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme. It is also the first Special Education Needs (SEN) school to be built under BSF. It was identified that good acoustics in the teaching environment will be critical in ensuring that pupils hear sound clearly.

WoodsorbaPro timber acoustic panels were selected to due to the very high sound absorption properties of the panels combined with a hard wearing and maintenance free surface.

1,600m2 of WoodsorbaPro timber acoustic panels were fitted to wall surfaces in the main hall and classrooms in a white baked paint finish. The baked paint surface finish allowed any marks of the surface to be just wiped off with a cloth and proprietary cleaner. The version of WoodsorbaPro timber acoustic panels chosen was Type B which provides 88% noise absorption on the incident sound.

The new £7.6m school will also provide state -of-the-art facilities for 80 peoples with profound and multiple learning difficulties between the ages of 11 and 18.
