Modern ferry uses Vetrotech's weight-saving glass solutions

Vetrotech has supplied the revamped modern ferry Blue Star Delos with several glass product combinations. Vetrotech provided their fire-resistant Contraflam® double-glazed units (DGUs), together with their toughened weight-saving Stadip® Marine exterior laminated glass.

Integrated with Parsol® Green tinted glass, this combination provided a very strong, safe glass solution – one that is both fire resistant and weight saving, with the added benefit of excellent solar control properties. Vetrotech also upplied Stadip® Marine for the areas where fire-resistant glass was not required. In doing so, Vetrotech were able to achieve a weight saving of more than four tons compared to traditional glass.

Originally founded in 1965 as Strintzis Lines, the rebranded Blue Star Ferries runs ferry services between the Greek mainland and the Aegean Islands. Blue Star Delos was built at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd (DSME) in Korea – the second largest shipbuilder in the world.
