New ACO KerbDrain®: Recyclable, Sustainable
ACOs award winning combined kerb drainage system, ACO KerbDrain®, is now manufactured from a breakthrough, recycled and recyclable material, Vienite. This new polymeric material ensures KerbDrain® not only retains its strength, durability and chemical resistance but also gives it the installed flexural and compressive performance to meet every standard required for the most demanding highway application.
Independently tested by EU approved authorities, every ACO Vienite KerbDrain® unit is certified to BS EN 1433:2002 Group 4, is CE marked and now carries the BSI Kitemark an assurance that the system is subjected to rigorous, ongoing independent testing. At the end of their operational life, the units can be collected, processed and returned to production as a raw material.
"The wider use of recycled materials is a key area within the UK framework for Sustainable Development and, subsequently, a strategy that is increasingly being adopted by regional and local planning authorities," says Peter Ridgway, Market Development Director at ACO Technologies. "There has been some legitimate concern though about the sub-standard performance of some recycled materials, particularly in highway applications. ACO KerbDrain® is the only system to carry the British Standard Kitemark this ensures it continuously meets the highest manufacturing and performance standards and complies fully with all the requirements of the Highways Agency."
Certified to Load Class D400, the ACO KerbDrain® range is available in three standard depths: 480mm, 305mm Kompact and 255mm. The vertical faces of every unit are cast with a series of unique cut-aways that, in addition to creating a stronger bond with the surrounding substrate, reduce the volume of material used a key feature of sustainable manufacturing.
The accompanying range of ACO KerbDrain® accessories is now also manufactured from Vienite. The range includes perforated and flush centre stones, splay kerbs, radius units, 90° internal and external quadrants, drop curb assemblies and bus stop kerbs. All meet the same specifications and standards as those required for the standard stones.
ACO KerbDrain® was first launched in 2000. Its unique design revolutionised highway drainage and brought ACO Technologies the first of its two Queens Awards for Innovation. Since it was first introduced the range of KerbDrain® products has been extended to cover all highway applications and now includes over 60 individual products.
