Following wind and snow loading damage during the storms of 2013, the La Moye Golf Club driving range buildings were closed and the principal Jersey club started to investigate new facilities to meet the specific links course needs. Gordon Callander of the club management committee, contacted HB Designs to find out more about a new driving range building being developed that would offer extreme weather protection within a comfortable and airy practice building.
The committee were impressed with the scale, robustness and permanence of the Curl building and wanted to invest in infrastructure that not only would be a legacy of their management but could be extended as the club grew. Following site consultations, design proposals and reference gathering the club contracted Design Cycle Associates Ltd, sister company to H-B Designs, to undertake the full design planning and statutory control work. Planning was granted in January 2014, construction scheduled for the coming autumn and local on island contractors booked. H-B Designs undertook the contract logistics, building supply and onsite installation and project management ensuring that the job was open to the club members in late October 2014.
The standard of manufacture and build provided by H-B Designs Ltd meets the new mandatory CE marking of fabricated steelwork. This new EU legislation came into force at the end of July 2014 and the club and its members are now confidently practicing, reassured knowing that the BS EN 1090-1 standard is in place.
The Curl building has developed from a popular H-B Designs cycle & storage shed.
Its distinctive shape is structurally strong, providing a snug and cosy shelter that is deceptively large. Rainwater is managed through the galvanised structure itself and it is a minimal maintenance building.
The upgrade options chosen by the club included the oiled Larchwood decking and bench seating, combination mesh and wood driving bay dividers and club branded rear wall banners.

The structure is bright, airy and welcoming with plenty of space to ensure the safety of all those visiting the range. The wooden floor provides a solid base on which to place mats and also gives forgiveness when hitting balls.
