The redevelopment of New York Street (formerly York Street) was a Manchester City Council project aimed at improving the usability of the street for pedestrians. The robust materials and coatings used in the project were chosen for their durability, so as not to deteriorate or wear over time.

The benches provided by Bailey Streetscene were made bespoke for the project, being hand carved out of Sea Grey granite, with feature LED under-lighting.
