Newark Primary School, Scotland
Architect: Studio E Architects
Type of works: supply and installation of Charter Integr8 security shutters.
Charter-Integr8 shutters were specified to add a splash of colour to Newark Primary School in Scotland. The school enjoys a prominent position in the local landscape and the use of Charter-Integr8 shutters (finished in vibrant Red and Green) is an important part of its bold and striking design. The Scottish Government is now using this £10m new build project as an example of best practice for other councils to follow.
The school is located on the junction of a busy road and the client was concerned about vandalism, commented Studio E Architects, and Charter-Integr8 shutters were an ideal solution. The fact that the shutters are fully concealed is another advantage, as they dont detract from the buildings design. In fact, they add another splash of colour to the facades, and have received favourable comments.
As part of the buildings energy efficient design, perforated shutters were specified to allow natural light in the classrooms even when the shutters are closed, and keep energy consumption to a minimum.
Studio E said: The schools design has been warmly welcomed both by those that use it and the wider community as it establishes a strong presence in the area.
