Newton announce a RIBA approved factory tour CPD

Newton Waterproofing Systems are pleased to announce RIBA have approved their Factory Tour for Double Point CPD status. The Factory Tour will be carried out at our Head Office and training facility in Tonbridge, Kent.

The Factory Tour objectives are to educate the specifier on their design obligations within the UK structural waterproofing industry in accordance with BS8102:2009, the Code of Practice for protection of structures from water from the ground.

The classroom section of the tour includes:
• The importance of BS8102:2009 and How to Design a Waterproofing System
• The types of systems available to protect structures internally and externally
• Different grades and standards of Waterproofing in the UK
• Failed Basements - Why? and how to remedy
• The importance of using an approved contractor to carry out structural waterproofing. This element educates specifiers that approved contractors can take full Professional Indemnity on design and installation, and the importance of protecting all involved with basements, in particular the end user

After a health and safety briefing, the tour begins in the warehouse talking through our range of Type A applied membranes, Type B water bars and construction/movement joints systems finally culminating with the Type C range and a live working model of the Cavity Drain Membrane System, including sump and pump and control systems. This element of the tour shows the importance of battery back-up systems and the different levels of protection available to designers, from a 95 amp hour battery to a self-starting generator for guaranteed pumped protection.

The next stage of the tour will include a demonstration on how to prepare a cementitious waterproof coating and the technique of spray applying coatings in our spay booths, both internally and externally. Specifiers will be shown the importance of concrete deck preparation. Preparation machines will be in operation showing how to remove latents and subsequent dust and debris prior to the application of spray systems.

The tour will conclude with a light buffet lunch with time for a Q & A session afterwards.

"We are proud to be the first structural waterproofing manufacturer in the UK to become RIBA accredited for factory tours. Our new NSBC contractor training facilities are the perfect environment for specifiers to “get hands on” with the full spectrum of waterproofing systems available. Working models of the Type C and Type A applied spray rigs put waterproofing theory into practice and we look forward to inviting specifiers throughout the UK to our Head Office in Tonbridge for the Tour.” Warren Muschialli - Managing Director, Newton Waterproofing Systems
