Old Granary development, Monikie, Scotland

Client: Harvest Country Homes
Products: Cassius and 20/20
Type of works: Sandtoft clay tiles specified for new-build housing development.

Two of Sandtoft’s high-quality, high-performance clay tiles are helping to realise a new concept in luxury family living. Cassius and 20/20 have been specified by Harvest Country Homes for their landmark Old Granary development at Monikie in Scotland which, when complete, will consist of 35 detached four bedroom houses and villas.

Located just 10 miles north east of Dundee, the Old Granary offers homeowners the best of both worlds. Scotland’s fourth largest city and all its amenities are only minutes away, yet Monikie actually nestles in the heart of the beautiful Angus countryside. The village is surrounded on all sides by truly stunning scenery, including the Monikie country park complete with its numerous reservoirs, sprawling woodland and abundant wildlife.

Considering this idyllic rural location, Harvest Country Homes was keen to specify roofing tiles which were as green and sympathetic to the surrounding area as possible. Plus, the main selling point of the development is the superior quality of the homes, where the emphasis is on design, spacious accommodation, layout and the quality of internal and external finishes. Consequently any tiles specified also had to meet these exacting standards.

Nick Tracy from the company explains: “Harvest Country Homes is proud to be introducing a new type of property to the marketplace where no expense has been spared in creating the finest family homes. Obviously, this commitment extends to the properties’ roofs and after looking at various roof tiles, Cassius and 20/20 from Sandtoft were by far the best choice.

“Their quality and aesthetics are amazing, whilst choosing the tiles in Antique Slate allowed us to replicate the look of Scottish slate but without the need for on-site sorting or holing or associated costs. In fact, our roofing contractors, Barnett Roofing, have said the tiles were actually as quick and easy to fit as concrete tiles thanks to their interlocking design and open gauge. Plus, they’re made from clay, making them a natural and more sustainable choice too.”

Nick Oldridge, Sandtoft’s Sales and Marketing Director, added: “We are delighted to be involved in this project, especially considering its prestigious and high-profile nature. The fact that Harvest Country Homes chose 20/20 and Cassius for this unique development highlights the truth behind many of the benefits we promote for these particular products, such as their enhanced environmental credentials and their impressive fixing efficiencies.”

The first houses have just been completed and the entire development will be finished within 18 months. However, already most of the luxurious family homes have been sold.

Perhaps even more notable, this is the second time in under a year that Cassius has been specified for a development in Monikie. It had previously been used by another house builder for an exclusive development in the same village consisting of just four houses; demonstrating the tile’s suitability for both volume-build and smaller, bespoke projects.
