A stunning new £19.5 million health care facility in Hartlepool features three attractive floor finishes from leading commercial vinyl flooring manufacturer Polyflor’s Expona Design luxury vinyl tile collection.

Expona Blond Indian Apple wood effect, Atlantic Slate and Grey Marble Mosaic stone effect were specified throughout the building to complement the light, spacious and high-end design feel while providing a hard-wearing and easy-to-maintain surface.

One Life Hartlepool was developed by Care Partnerships 25 Ltd, the LIFT Co for Tees Valley and South Durham, and built for Hartlepool PCT to provide primary health care services from the 2.6 acre site.

Designed by West and Machell Architects, the facility boasts a spectacular three storey central atrium running the full length of the building to allow natural light to flood in.

“Hospitals and healthcare facilities must provide modern, attractive surroundings where patients feel comfortable about receiving care,” explained Chris Webb from West and Machell Architects.

“The atrium certainly steals the show with this project but great care was taken in designing every corner of the building and choosing the finishing materials. Polyflor’s Expona Design range provided the aesthetic quality we were after without compromising on ease of maintenance and durability.”

Construction work was contracted to Accent Foundation Ltd (The LIFTCo’s Private Sector Partner) with the onsite construction works sub-contracted to Carillion Plc (Building) and SES Ltd (M&E), while the flooring installation was carried out by Tyndale Carpets of Leeds.

Expona Design luxury vinyl tiles are suitable for very heavy commercial use and ideal for a variety of hospitality, leisure, education, retail and healthcare installations. The product features a polyurethane surface treatment, aiding maintenance and removing traditional restrictions on freedom of design choice.
