Precast modular platform unit for Crossrail scheme

Precast modular platform unit for Crossrail scheme

A modular precast platform unit from FP McCann is playing a major role on a Crossrail scheme. Construction is well underway at Abbey Wood station in north Kent, one of 10 stations being upgraded for the Crossrail route that will run from Reading in the west through to Shenfield and Abbey Wood to the east of London.

FP McCann was chosen to produce ‘L’ shaped precast concrete units to one of the 250 metre platforms servicing the North Kent line. In total, some 227 individual sections make up the platform which has been designed to accommodate new trains passing through.

The product is manufactured at FP McCann’s Littleport facility in Cambridgshire and is being used in a bespoke platform design. Each unit weighs just under 3 tonnes and provides a stable platform construction for the application of the copers, tactile and finishing asphalt surface. Standard Network Rail copers (930mmx760mmx100m) are also being supplied by FP McCann.
