Private Home, Peacehaven, East Sussex

Client: Theo Clinkard Type of works: supply of Cedral Weatherboard Marley’s fibre cement Cedral Weatherboard has been specified as an overclad solution on a dated 1960s bungalow in Peacehaven on the Sussex coast.

The durable and low maintenance benefits of Marley’s Cedral Weatherboard made it ideal for use on this property, which faces directly onto the seafront and is exposed to high levels of wind and rain.

Being made from fibre cement means that Cedral Weatherboard won’t warp or shrink over time, or need regular maintenance and re-painting. This combined with the visual appeal of natural timber makes it the perfect alternative to traditional timber weatherboard.

Homeowner Theo Clinkard chose Cedral Weatherboard in Grey as an overclad solution for his property because it harmonised with the style of surrounding homes. It also provided a more modern feel than the existing pebble dashed walls, which Mr Clinkard says gave the property an old fashioned appearance as well as requiring ongoing upkeep.

Mr Clinkard said: “When I bought the bungalow 18 months ago it was quite old fashioned and my plan was just to use the shell and completely change it both inside and out. It had been a dream of mine to own a weatherboarded seafront property, and the Cedral Weatherboard has enabled me to do just that. I’m delighted with the result – it looks fantastic.”

Marley’s Cedral Weatherboard was recommended by Mr Clinkard’s chosen installer, GP Solutions of Shoreham.

Company owner Gareth Piggott says: “Wherever possible, I always recommend Marley’s fibre cement Cedral Weatherboard – it is practical for all properties, including those in exposed coastal locations like Mr Clinkards. Our installers like using Cedral Weatherboard because of its quality and the fact that it is so easy to work with and install.”

Cedral Weatherboard requires no routine maintenance and has an installed life expectancy of at least 50 years. It is available in 22 colours and four woodstain finishes, along with a range of matching coloured aluminium trims. In addition, it can be cut, nailed or screwed just like timber, providing an easy to install, practical facade solution. It is ideal where there are ongoing issues with painting timber, including window and door surrounds, along with soffit and barge boards.

Fibre cement Cedral Weatherboard can achieve an A+ rating as defined in the BRE’s Green Guide to Specification based on generic rating for autoclaved fibre cement (calcium silicate) cladding - (Element Ref: 806220701, 806220675, 806220676)
