Window, door and curtain walling specialist Profile 22 has developed its first BIM Object, providing 2D and 3D product representations, information and data associated with its Fully Reversible 70mm window system. In Revit file format, this allows the product to be incorporated into a 3D model and its associated component database. The fully reversible window is ideal for medium to high-rise buildings and where access may be limited. It has a cost effective WER A+ option, and can achieve a low u-value of 0.8 with triple glazing. Profile 22’s innovative Aeroframe technology also serves to advance the insulation of the profile and improve the window’s thermal efficiency, providing an insulated wall thickness of 5.5 mm acting as a honeycomb construction in the central cavity.

Building Information Modelling (BIM) is set to revolutionise the procurement and management of the built environment. Forming part of its Construction Strategy published in May 2011 the Government announced its intention to require ‘…collaborative 3D BIM (with all project and asset information, documentation and data being electronic) on projects by 2016.’

In short, it will transform the way in which buildings, infrastructure, and utilities are planned, designed, built, and managed. Each BIM Object includes embedded product information and associated data to support the specification process and provide an audit trail for the components throughout the life of the building.
