Synopsis:
Column mounted edge protection system with integral pedestrian handrail and anti-climb mesh for 530 space multi-storey car park on the site of the old Assay office in Sheffield.

Specification:
690 metres of System 3 Perimeter Edge Protection Barrier consisting of 4 tensioned steel bars and 1100mm high Flexiposts at 2.5 metres centres with anti climb mesh panels between posts.

When the Assay Office in Sheffield moved out to Owlerton on the edge of the city, their old premises in Portobello Street were redeveloped by developers Cordwell Property Group into a mixed retail/leisure site with a 531 space multistorey car park.

The car park operator, Q-Park, wanted a very distinctive exterior appearance with dramatic use of expanded metal cladding and turned to Berry’s System 3 Perimeter Edge Protection System to complete the ultra modern style. System 3 is one of the new range of column mounted safety barriers from Berry Systems and, instead of the barrier being mounted onto posts secured to the car park deck, protection is provided by 4 tensioned steel bars secured to the structural columns ands supplemented by Flexible interim posts at 2.5 metres centres.

Anti-climb mesh is fitted between the posts which, together with the upper tensioned bar, provides an integral pedestrian handrail. Column mounted safety barriers like System 3 have the added advantage of a zero footprint in the parking bay. Extensively tested at MIRA to BS 6399, System 3 meets or exceeds all the latest relevant standards and recommendations.
