This new residential development for Gateway Housing involved the demolition of an existing building to create 32 high-quality homes consisting of different sized apartments. The location in Tower Hamlets demanded a carefully thought-out design by FBM Architects to complement the historic character of the area with a modern structure providing a contemporary standard of living.

All building works were carried out by Kind & Company (Builders) Ltd and included the distinctive brick and block external façade, as well as a wildflower roof system and photovoltaic panels. To comply with Approved Document B of The Building Regulations, Smoke and Fire Ventilation Systems Ltd were commissioned to supply & install automatic smoke ventilation for the lobbies.

They chose FIEGER FLW 32 SmoTec louvre vents comprising insulated aluminium blades with Class A1 mineral wool as well as laminated safety glass.

The vent frames were supplied in RAL 6021 Pale Green powder coated paint with a satin finish.

D+H 24V DC actuators were fitted to the side frames of the vents and were connected to the fire detection system for automatic operation. In addition to their reliability, these motors were selected for the antitrapping function, which is a standard safety feature.

The vents were all supplied with side mounted box-section adapters and pre-drilled side fixing holes to facilitate installation.

The CE marked FLW SmoTec models are tested and certified in accordance with EN 12101-2.
