Rockfon’s lowest environmental impact ceiling solutions to feature at BSEC

Rockfon will once again be exhibiting at this year’s ‘Building Schools Exhibition and Conference’ taking place at ExCel in London from 23rd to 24th February. With over 50 years of experience in the education sector, Rockfon has established itself as one of the leading manufacturers of acoustic ceiling solutions.

Rockfon has also recently undergone the stringent, independent BRE Life Cycle Analysis. The results concluded that a typical Rockfon stone wool resin-bonded mineral wool ceiling has the lowest Ecopoint score ever, when compared to all other ceiling tiles that have been evaluated and published to date.

Many new build schools now employ thermal mass solutions in order to meet energy efficiency and environmental targets. Thermal mass requires the use of materials with a high inertia, like concrete, which need to remain uncovered to allow effective circulation of air and heat exchange.

Traditional ‘wall to wall’ suspended ceilings cannot be used to improve the room acoustics in these situations since the hard surfaces need to be left exposed. The solution is to utilise ceiling islands and baffles which allow the air to circulate freely while absorbing sound from both sides of the panel, thereby optimising acoustic comfort.

Rockfon Contour is an economic baffle offering the highest performance in sound absorption and contributing to reducing reverberation time and ambient sound levels. Rockfon Eclipse is an innovative ceiling island offering acoustic solutions with a new aesthetic dimension. It can be used where traditional suspended ceilings are unsuitable, and is also ideal for retrofitting to existing ceilings to improve room acoustics.

Available in square and rectangular formats, Eclipse islands are frameless, with a minimalistic sharp edge underlined by a subtle and elegant bevel. Made from a 40mm stone wool panel, the visible side is covered with a painted glass fleece to give a smooth white surface, while the back is covered with a white acoustic fleece that provides excellent light and heat reflection.

These innovative solutions will be on display alongside many of Rockfon’s other acoustic ceiling solutions at Stand No. 444 at BSEC. Visitors will be able to view and handle the products, as well as learn more about their low Ecopoint performance. General information about Rockfon and its solutions for the education sector will also be available.
