UN103 Oak Rustic Weathered Beam, Hand Finished, Stained & Hardwax Oiled, from V4 Woodflooring, was chosen for a renovation works at a beautiful country home. Having moved into The Croft in Blakeshall over five years ago, The Thompson family had planned a renovation of the ground floor space to create open plan living. The family’s aspiration was to maintain a rustic, country feel but with modern benefits.

The house had solid oak floors throughout when the Thompson’s moved in which they loved, however they were looking to install underfloor heating throughout which wouldn’t work with the existing floor. Looking for inspiration for their extension project, they visited the Grand Designs Live in 2013. Here they met V4 Woodflooring and were introduced to a new range of wood floors coming soon from V4, Urban Nature.

The Thompson’s selected UN103 Oak Rustic Weathered Beam, Hand Finished, Stained & Hardwax Oiled. The surface of this board is given various treatments including distressing and hand scraping with traditional tools, the timber is selected for its character filled knots and natural blemishes which are filled and then sanded individually to leave open knots and holes which give the appearance of an aged and weathered plank. The Weathered Beam top layer is given the appearance of an aged, fumed board with the application of several different WOCA colour hardwax oils which are able to coat the deep embossed grain.
