Sands Resort, Scarborough

Architects: Stringer & Jones
Type of works: design, manufacture and installation of canopies to rooftop terrace.

The Sands is an exclusive residential development located on the sea-front of the North Bay area in Scarborough.

J & J Carter was responsible for the design, manufacture and installation of canopies to the rooftop terrace of The Sands development. As the canopies need to integrate with the building scheme it was necessary to work with the builders and fit into construction schedules. The environmental conditions of the location also needed to be taken into consideration.

Two canopies were integrated into the perimeter balustrade structure to cover an area on the 5th floor roof terrace. The canopies were designed visually to complement the existing buildings and reflect its seaside setting.

The architects, Stringer & Jones, said: "The superb design has worked to enhance the terrace and assist in providing an idyllic surround for the residents of the development to enjoy the views of the ocean, which is a major selling point. The outstanding quality of work gives us confidence that the canopies will withstand the environmental conditions of the location. J & J Carter worked admirably alongside the builders to fit into the scheme.”
