Global building products manufacturer, Sika, has added Galvashield® XP, the world-renowned, cost-effective rebar corrosion protection system, to its leading portfolio of specialist construction materials.
Having distributed the Galvashield® XP embedded galvanic anode to the US for over five years, Sika will now supply the product to its UK market. It perfectly complements the companys extensive range of concrete repair solutions that solve a variety of common problems with long-lasting protection.
Mark Shaw, Technical Manager of Sika Ltd comments, "The addition of the Galvashield anodes to our range gives us more scope when it comes to managing corrosion control in chloride contaminated areas. Sika now has answers to almost all the problems within concrete deterioration."
Sika has a range of products approved under ES EN1504 which restore failing concrete, including water intrusion and expansion cracks. These can be combined with the Galvashield® XP, which is particularly ideal for patch repairs, joints between new and existing concrete, bridge widening and more for a complete concrete repair solution. The embedded galvanic anodes can be installed quickly and easily to provide localised protection to areas most at risk from corrosion.
Its key element is the sacrificial zinc core. This corrodes preferentially to the surrounding steel rebar as it is a weaker metal, which leads to a significant reduction in the deterioration of the steel.
Depending on a number of conditions, including quality of the concrete, the density of the reinforcing steel and humidity, the Galvashield® XP embedded galvanic anode offers a 10 to 20 year service life. Therefore, its a simple addition that can prevent the need for costly repairs for decades.
Galvashield® XP is supplied to Sika by Canadian based Vector Corrosion Technologies. The collaboration now means that Sika can provide a full repair scheme with clients benefiting from a single source supply and maximum durability.
As part of the companys comprehensive service, its national network of experienced technical managers provide expert specification advice, alongside specialist design support.
