Sika Roofing used on Cathedral Square Restoration

Due to thecost of replacing the copper, Glasgow Housing Association wanted to re-roof the buildings with concrete tiles but because the structure is overlooked by Glasgow Cathedral – an important medieval cathedral with its own copper roof – the City Planners did not approve. As a solution to both problems – the cost and the need to keep the building’s appearance in-keeping with its surroundings – Sika Liquid
Plastics suggested a Decothane Gamma 20 system in Verdi Green.

This is a cold applied system that consists of a Decothane Base Coat reinforced with Reemat Premium Glass Fibre Matting and completed with a Decothane top coat. Contractor Orchard Construction Services chose Sika's Decothane system as it's completely cold applied, thus removing the need for any heat or naked flame on the roof.

Once installed it is guaranteed to last for at least 20 years. The Decothane membrane is also completely seamless and can be easily applied around any detail areas to provide full encapsulation, but most importantly Verdi Green Decothane matches the colour of the existing copper so the appearance of the roofs did not change. Decothane Balcons was also used to waterproof and protect all of the balconies and access decks.
