As part of an ambitious expansion project implemented by designers and architects at Lee Boyd, St Paul’s and St George’s Church in Edinburgh now benefits from an eye-catching, all-glass pavilion at the entrance of the building, featuring two prestigious, curved sliding doors from TORMAX™. Over 3.5m high and with a 4m curved radius, each entrance door leaf weighs nearly 80kg requiring the high-powered TORMAX TXP™ operator to deliver rapid yet silent automatic opening and closing. “The Tormax door looks quite spectacular” comments Gary Treacy, of Lee Boyd. “We have been delighted with the final result which creates a highly visible area for visitors to be welcomed into the Church.”

With an expanding congregation, the vibrant St Paul’s and St George’s Church faced a challenge to re-design the impressive Gothic Revival building on York Place to meet their accommodation needs well into the future. The Lee Boyd solution has included the construction of three new balconies within the main worshipping space, developing the hallway to deliver more flexible space, as well as a functional yet impressive glass reception area that reflects the outward looking ethos of the Church. The renovation was recently appointed ‘Building of the Year 2009’ by the Edinburgh Architectural Association.

Meeting the highest standards for automatic doors the powerful TXP operator cuts design constraints, allowing freedom to install a prestigious, out-sized automatic entrance. TORMAX™ was able to offer a unique yet cost-effective solution for the automatic entrance to the glass reception pavilion, utilising tried and tested technology to ensure reliability, even in this high foot traffic situation. Servicing and maintenance of the wear-free TXP synchronous motor is minimised thanks to constant diagnostic monitoring via a data recording system, whilst a comprehensive network of hi-tech motion detectors ensure user safety at all times.
