City Learning Centre, London Borough of Southwark
Client: City Learning Centre, London Borough of Southwark.
Type of works: Supply of bespoke stainless-steel grilles to suit architects building design.
Fortress County Shutters offered several grille designs, the chosen one being stainless steel in-line rectangular brick-bond. The grilles were attached to structural support columns which inclined outwards from the base at 10 degrees, to meet the overhang of the roof line. Five electrically-operated grilles were provided, together with five rigid grilles which were constructed in triangular shaped frames to meet the incline of the steelwork at either end of the building. All grilles were 8,500mm high, the width of the electric grilles being 3,500mm. The remit of London Borough, Southwark was to design a building that had visual impact in the area.
A striking design of the building would make the community aware and at the same time be aesthetically pleasing.
The grilles would give protection to all of the glass facades and to the high-value equipment contained within the building.
