Thatcham Children’s Centre, West Berkshire

Client: West Berkshire Council
Architect: The Bush Consultancy
Contractor: Newbury Interiors
Type of works: Multiwal has installed a Type 100U Multi Electric automatic operable wall with pass door

Multiwal has installed a Type 100U Multi Electric automatic operable wall with pass door in West Berkshire Council’s Sure Start Children’s Centre in Thatcham. Staff at the centre are pleased with the quick, simple operation when opening and closing the wall, so much better than the hand cranked manual walls of the past.

This installation forms part of a refurbishment and the wall has been provided with an especially slim wall jamb and over door detail to maximise space in the restricted activity area. The automatic process is a quick 3 seconds each for the top and bottom seals to activate. The wall is then a solid sealed unit and is an assured smoke barrier in the event of a fire. Unlike old style manual walls Multi Electric ensures that seals are always fully extended or fully retracted. This means that the wall is foolproof and will not require maintenance of damaged seals throughout its long life.
