The Azure Project, Hoe, Plymouth

4 Feb 2011

Client: Devington Homes
Architect: Architects Design Group (ADG)
Contractor: Ardmore Construction Ltd
Installer: Fleetwood Architectural Aluminium
Type of works: supply of Reynaers' aluminium curtain-walling, sliding systems and thermally-insulated windows and doors.

Reynaers Aluminium has helped rejuvenate an area of the Hoe, Plymouth by providing curtain walling, sliding systems and thermally-insulated windows and doors for a £17 million state-of-the-art residential scheme.

Overlooking Plymouth’s stunning coastal views, the Azure Project is situated on a previously derelict historic area of Plymouth’s Hoe and comprises 109 exclusive apartments and penthouses. It has three separate sets of linked apartments with spacious terraces, many of which face due South with uninterrupted views across Plymouth Sound.

The project was designed by Architects Design Group (ADG), after winning a design and tender competition in association with Devington Homes, who specialises in the creation of high-profile residential projects. Developed by Ardmore Construction Ltd, these contemporary apartments represent the very highest level of luxury; with a fully glazed walkway elevation to link the individual apartments with spacious, airy and light-filling terraces and extensive underground car-parking.

Reynaers CW50 curtain walling, CP96 sliding systems and CS68 windows and doors were installed throughout the development by Fleetwood Architectural Aluminium. Covering a complete elevation of the development, the CW50 curtain-walling maximises light penetration into the terraces, while the highly innovative CP96 sliding system allows easy access to the building’s terraces. CS68 windows and doors, incorporating Reynaers' three-chamber system, provide improved thermal insulation with double-butt strips between the frame and vent and lowered drainage to ensure superior wind- and water-tightness.

The development is on a prominent area of the Hoe once occupied by the Royal Western Yacht Club which was bombed in the Second World War and left derelict for 60 years. It now marks a modern landmark symbolising the regeneration of this historic site. Adjacent to The Azure Project is The Grand Hotel which is currently being transformed by Devington Homes into 24 classical apartments and penthouses.
