The Braid Arts Centre, Ballymena

4 Sep 2009

Architect: Consarc Design
Type of works: supply and installation of access control systems and door automation and restoration of original ironmongery.

The Braid Arts Centre stands like an icon to the future, with old being sensitively merged with the new to create a landmark building in the bustling historic centre of Ballymena.

As far back as the 1600’s the site was a key part of community life, when it boasted a busy market place.

Today the complex includes a new museum, galleries and an Arts workshop.

The ironmongery specification was as unique as the building itself, mixing old and new while ensuring DDA requirements were met.

Different disciplines throughout the building meant MB Architectural restored old Hawgood hinges and refinished original bronze ironmongery.

MB Architectural also supplied a modern Sembla specification in addition to supplying and installing a full on-line access control system and full door automation package.

MB Architectural won a commendation for the specification and supply of ironmongery to The Braid at the 2009 Architectural Ironmongery Specification Wards (Public Buildings category) in conjunction with RIBA.

Macnaughton Blair Architectural Ironmongery Division consists of Lloyd Worrall in GB, Yannedis in London, MB Architectural in NI and MB Doorplan in ROI.
