Top Brewery Benefits from Hygienic Floor Solutions From Sika

When one of the world’s largest brewers wanted to upgrade its manufacturing plant in Hampshire, they required a flooring solution which not only met strict food safety and hygiene requirements but also had impressive aesthetic qualities. To ensure the facility met these requirements, consultant engineers Norton Design Associates specified a series of market-leading solutions from global building products manufacturer, Sika.

In a major multi-year brewery investment programme, Molson Coors (UK and Ireland) is creating state-of-the-art bottling and canning areas in addition to new beer processing and refrigeration facilities at its three UK Breweries. As part of the upgrade of the company’s Alton brewery, consultant engineer Norden Design Associates specified Sika’s hygienic coatings for the building’s internal environment to achieve a surface that is easy to clean, hard wearing and free from joints and seams.

Working with main contractor Buckingham Group, specialist contractor Goss Coatings, a recommended Sika contractor, was appointed to install hard wearing, food grade floor and wall coatings. From Sika’s versatile and durable range of hygienic coatings, Sikagard 203W /206W met the project’s requirements perfectly and helped meet the project’s tight timeframe of four weeks.

“We were faced with the challenge of working in a busy environment around processing and industrial machinery and also having to install the floors alongside other trades,” commented George Goss of Goss Coatings. “Sika’s products offer great adhesion, are rapid drying and easy to apply to a range of substrates which meant we were able to complete the application within the required timeframe. They also offer long term performance and met the client’s strict hygienic requirements.”

Before installing the Sikagard 203W/206W, the existing substrates were prepared by deflaking and removing the existing coatings by captive shot blasting prior to the application of a bonding primer by roller and brushing.

To ensure the brewery’s internal environment can be kept to the hygienic de-mands of the food and beverage manufacturing industry, Sikagard 203W /205W fibre glass hygienic floor and wall coatings were applied by airless spray and roller and brush to 1,200m2 of floor and walls. With building surfaces difficult to clean and susceptible to bacteria, Sikagard 203W/205W hygienic coatings are resistant to stringent cleaning regimes and contain an integral preservative that provides long lasting protection.

With the upgrade of one of Britain’s largest breweries now complete, Sika’s proven range of floor and wall solutions met all the customer’s requirements and ensured the brewery met all hygiene requirements for years to come.
