Spatial agility is becoming more visible in design schemes as the shifts in technology use and mobile working practices are adopted to a greater degree. Flexibility in terms of function and placement is becoming an increasingly important consideration.
Umi by Isomi addresses this functional shift and anticipates the user to move around the object using a mobile device such as a tablet. It’s this change in use that starts to inform the soft edges and ability to flow around the object.
The link between the user and client is much more intimate and the division between front and back are deliberately undefined, creating a more relaxed interaction point.
Available with castors, Umi is designed to have multiple placements within a space, adapting to the needs of the building users at a moment’s notice. The integrated task light ensures placement options are not limited by the lighting scheme within a space while also reducing the number of items on the worktop, maintaining the clean appearance. With access to void space for floorplate connections, Umi will also be available with a battery power option later in the year.
Featuring tapered elements, the proportions of Umi work to reveal the design slowly upon approach, drawing clients in whilst also creating a sweeping internal experience for the end user. The undercut base creates a visually lighter footprint which both softens the piece and provides the practical element of foot space allowing closer interaction.
The aesthetic of Umi is kept intentionally minimal, ensuring longevity of use in contemporary designs. Delivered ready to place, Umi doesn’t require installation which gives end users complete control and flexibility over its placement.
Providing an aesthetically pleasing view from 360 degrees, Umi supports central placements within a space concealing all functionality within the design.
Equally comfortable as an individual piece or part of a series, Umi is designed to create a subtle focal point which could be placed anywhere.
