Victorian Park, South Tyneside

Client: South Marine Park
Contractor: STP Construction
Type of works: supply of Alumasc’s Heritage cast-aluminium rainwater system for the new public facilities building.

Alumasc’s Heritage cast-aluminium rainwater system has provided the perfect solution for the restoration of a 19th Century Victorian Park in South Tyneside.

The £5m improvement project at South Marine Park has been carried out sympathetically by South Tyneside Council using historic photographs of the original park as a reference. The seafront park has been restored to its former glory thanks to an intensive programme of works supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, including a new children's play area, reinstatement of the terrace and bandstands and refurbishment of the rock garden, statues, miniature railway and boathouse.

Alumasc’s Heritage cast-aluminium rainwater system was chosen for the new public facilities building, to replicate the original cast iron systems used in the rest of the park. STP Construction installed a Heritage half round gutter system with Heritage circular downpipes in red to achieve the desired effect.

Heritage is a comprehensive range of traditional gutter profiles, round, square and rectangular pipes and all associated fittings and accessories. Manufactured using modern casting techniques, the Heritage range is designed to provide all the essential architectural features appropriate to traditionally designed buildings.

A choice of BBA approved polyester powder coatings is available in 16 standard colours with BS or RAL colours available to special order. The range can be supplied to resemble cast-iron surface texture or is available in plain mill finish for on-site painting. Heritage is lightweight, durable and non-corrodible, with up to 25 years life expectancy in marine/industrial environments and 40 years in rural/suburban sites. The system is easy to handle and fix, with minimal maintenance requirements.

In accordance with Alumasc’s environmental policy, Aluminium is 100% recyclable.
