Vincent Timber makes the grade at Kidderminster School

Over 3,000m2 of Cape Cod cladding from Vincent Timber has provided the perfect combination of thermal efficiency and a stunning aesthetic at a new £24.5 million learning campus in Kidderminster.

Built by Speller Metcalfe for Worcester County Council, the Habberley Learning Campus has created a shared learning environment for three Kidderminster Schools – Baxter College, St. John’s Primary School and the Wyre Forest Special School. The project involves the construction of a new science teaching block, early years teaching hub, school building and weekly boarding unit, as well as extensive refurbishment and extension of St. John’s.

With all of the new buildings incorporating high insulation and airtightness values, the project is set to achieve a BREEAM Very Good rating. For an external cladding system that would deliver excellent thermal performance, alongside durability and a high quality aesthetic, main contractor Speller Metcalfe turned to Vincent Timber and its pre-coated Cape Cod cladding.

In addition to 10 standard colours, custom colours are also available across all the profiles. For the external walls 2,700m2 of ‘Olympic Granite’ and 275m2 of ‘Driftwood Grey’ was specified to create a subtle, contemporary appearance. The specification was completed with the application of an additional 650m2 of Western Red Cedar for the soffits.

Cape Cod is produced from Canadian Lodgepole Pine sourced from sustainable managed forests. Incredibly durable, visually stunning and PEFC certified, Cape Cod offers all the benefits of natural wood with a low maintenance finish.

The project was completed in summer 2015 and the specification and application of Vincent Timber’s Cape Cod cladding will ensure the stunning facility benefits from a sustainable, aesthetically pleasing and high performance product that will stand the test of time.
