W Hotel, Leicester Square

Client: W Hotel
Type of works: installed Stannah 100A and 100B Microlifts.

Guests at the UK flagship W London, Leicester Square hotel are enjoying über-swish service thanks to the back-of-house support of two Stannah Microlifts and a 250kg Trolleylift.

First of its kind in the UK and built on the site of the former Swiss Centre in the hub of London’s entertainment scene, W London, Leicester Square is a global brand hotel comprising 192 guest rooms with 5 Fantastic Suites, 2 Marvellous Suites, 3 Spa Suites, 7 Studio Suites, 3 Wow Suites and 1 E-Wow Suite, and a signature spa and fitness facility. All guest rooms feature custom-made furnishings and stylish accents unique to London.

Located side-by-side, the Stannah 100A and 100B Microlifts are delivering discreet, efficient dining service to hotel guests, London residents and visitors from far and wide. Operating between the ground-floor kitchen and the 1st floor W Lounge and W Lounge Bar, the lifts ferry food and dining-ware over a distance of 3540mm.

Sited at a convenient, Health & Safety-conscious waist-height, both models are accessed by rise-and-fall shutters, feature three shelves each for maximum load-carrying capability, and are finished in easy-clean, satin stainless steel for hygienic, durable performance.

To satisfy hotel demands, the 100B Microlift was individually adapted by Stannah to carry a 150kg load. This was achieved by incorporating a more powerful motor, with the counterweight having the corresponding filler weights to balance the 50% increase in carrying capacity.

The Microlift is Europe’ s largest selling range of service lifts and everyone’s answer to moving goods – from a bottle of fine wine to machinery parts. Ideal for the repeated movement of small loads in a range of businesses, these lifts are often referred to as ‘dumbwaiters’, food lifts or small service lifts because of the invaluable assistance they bring to a busy catering environment.

The 250kg Trolleylift travels 1600mm between two kitchens and is responsible for moving heavier, bulkier catering supplies. Installed in just 2-3 days and finished in tough, grey, baked enamel, it provides the simplest, quickest, most reliable and economical solution to the hotel’s heavy lifting problems.

All three goods lifts were specified by Mark Taylor, Director of Belfast building services engineering consultancy, Caldwell Consulting: “This high-end hotel needed reliable, high-performance goods lifts to service its prolific and discerning patrons. UK lift manufacturer, Stannah, came up with the right product at the right price to the required specification, all backed by a 150-year pedigree for added reassurance.”

The 100A and 100B Microlifts and 250kg Trolleylift are serviced by the Crayford branch of Stannah Lift Services, a nationwide network providing 24 hour, 365 days a year support. This covers service, repair, modernisation and refurbishment of all types of lifts, stairlifts, escalators and moving walkways – not only those from the Stannah product range, but also other lift manufacturers’ equipment. Stannah also offers a bespoke lifts service, custom-building lifts to meet customers’ specific requirements.
