The connection point between the basement slab and outer walls has always been a danger area where thermal bridges can easily be formed.
Schöck Novomur® achieves a highly-effective insulation of the thermal bridge in the foundation, right from the start. This innovative Schöck product has been developed with residential buildings in mind and is available in two loadbearing categories, Novomur® Light and Novomur® Standard. The thermal insulation element is built into the first course of brick/blockwork at the point where the basement ceiling forms the ground floor and from where the outer and inner walls begin. Alternatively, as the final course in the basement masonry wall, providing effective thermal insulation.
The Novomur® element is available in all regular wall thicknesses: 100, 115, 150, 175, 200 and 240mm, and comes in 750mm standard lengths. The toothed structure of the elements ensure good bonding too, meaning they can be laid with normal or thin-bed mortar. Also, the elements are non-absorbent, so any surface water accumulating on the slab is not stored in the brick or blockwork.
