Welcome to a new revolution in entrance flooring matting

The entrance to a building is one of the most important areas of any building, where first impressions count. With its contemporary linear design and rich pile height, Forbo’s newest addition to its entrance flooring range, Coral Welcome, certainly makes a luxurious and stylish design statement. However, there’s more to this product than meets the eye, as Coral Welcome is also an environmentally friendly choice, making a strong contribution to a building’s overall environmental credentials.

Coral Welcome fuses the style and aesthetic appeal of a luxury carpet, with the tough, practical benefits of an effective entrance flooring system. Responding to the continued demand for linear design and the surge in popularity for brighter colours, Coral Welcome incorporates eight strong, contemporary shades each running through a black base yarn – creating an often striking and unequivocal effect. Electric blue, lime green, lush sunset red and pink, along with bold volcanic orange tones are just some of the colours which feature within the modern styling of the new range, and there’s also sophisticated blacks, greys and browns for those wanting a more muted look.

Yet, it is the application of Forbo’s green design principles that run throughout the whole of the business, which really sets Coral Welcome apart from any ordinary entrance matting system. The new product scores exceptionally highly when it comes to its environmental credentials; the luxurious look and feel belies the fact that its yarns and backing cloth are made of recycled material and as the product is produced in an manufacturing plant that has achieved virtually zero landfill, Coral Welcome can be classed as a closed loop product

“Coral Welcome is made from 100 percent recycled yarns captured from old carpet and fishing nets, while the primary backing is made from recycled PET bottles and recycled yarn – creating a highly functional entrance matting system that is suitable for use in heavy commercial areas, that works hard to remove both moisture and dirt,” explains Janet Lowe, UK Market Manager at Forbo Flooring Systems.

“As an environmentally conscientious manufacturer, we have reflected our company ethos of ‘creating better environments’ with Coral Welcome, and consideration was given from the start of the product development to reducing the environmental impact of the product as measured by independent Life Cycle Analysis (LCA). Coral Welcome shows a 60 percent reduction on LCA over the previous Coral range.”

Committed to making a significant reduction in its overall LCA of 25 percent by 2015, Forbo’s approach to achieving this is based on applying the 4 R’s: Reduce, Renewable, Reuse, Recycle. Being committed to working closely with forward thinking suppliers who are able to incorporate ever higher levels of recycled content in their materials, the Econyl yarn used in Coral Welcome, for example, is made using reprocessed industrial waste and post consumer waste. Furthermore, all of Forbo’s own yarn waste is also sent back to the main supplier and this is regenerated into new Coral Welcome yarn.

Like all Forbo’s entrance flooring, this highly efficient ‘wipe-off’ system, helps to create cleaner, safer and more aesthetically pleasing interiors. In fact, Coral Welcome can stop up to 90 percent of dirt and moisture entering a building, which ultimately can save up to 65 percent of the life-time cleaning costs of flooring. As with all other Coral products, Coral Welcome is a cut pile construction, which helps the product retain its striking appearance.
