Wimbledon tennis museum

12 Sep 2008

Client: All England Lawn Tennis Club
Museum designers: Mather & Co of Wilmslow
Contractor: VA Hutchison Flooring
Type of works: Junckers oiled oak flooring laid in tennis museum, Wimbledon.

Junckers 22mm oiled oak was laid in the All England Lawn Tennis Club’s recently opened museum at Wimbledon, which charts the history of tennis as far back as 1555.

By contrast, the museum is an exciting contemporary environment, with Junckers hardwood floors giving a warm backdrop. The 22mm solid oak was laid directly over an existing raised access floor. Junckers’ specially-developed oiled finish has proved itself ultra-hardwearing in major museums and public buildings worldwide, and was a natural choice for the AELTC’s already extremely busy new attraction.
