Aggregate parent company LafargeHolcim reveal judging panel for Awards

Parent company to Aggregate LafargeHolcim have just revealed their judging panel for the Euopean arm of its upcoming Awards, Aggregate Industries is encouraging all UK pioneers of sustainable design to submit their entry.

The LafargeHolcim Awards have been designed to reward and recognise those projects that push boundaries in balancing environmental performance, social responsibility, and economic growth.

Currently open for entries until 25th February 2020, the competition offers a total of USD 2 million in prize money.

The upcoming sixth cycle will be judged by an expert panel of nine in Europe including Jeannette Kuo (Head), as well as Kristiaan Borret, Chief Architect of the Brussels-Capital Region (Belgium); Nuno Brandão Costa, Founder of Brandão Costa Arquitectos (Portugal); Eva Pfannes, Director at Ooze Architects (Netherlands); Sergei Tchoban, Head of SPEECH architectural office and Managing Partner at Tchoban Voss Architekten (Russia/Germany); and Alexandre Theriot, Founding Partner and Architect at BRUTHER (France/Switzerland).

Guy Edwards, Chief Executive Officer at Aggregate Industries said: “As we look to the future of the construction industry, it is instrumental that we balance the need for economic growth with sustainability. In the UK we need only look towards the government’s recent Net Zero pledge so see the pressing need to alleviate environmental impact and embrace alternative methods and technologies.

“We are therefore incredibly proud to support locally the International LafargeHolcim Awards – the most significant awards of its kind in the world – which has been designed to reward and recognise those businesses and individuals who truly push boundaries in sustainable design. With a world-class judging panel now revealed and less than six months until entries close, we’d urge all suitable candidates here in the UK to get involved.”

Hosted by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (Switzerland), an associated university of the LafargeHolcim Foundation, the jury will rank submissions using the five “target issues” for sustainable construction: covering innovation and transferability (progress), ethical standards and social inclusion (people), resource and environmental performance (planet), economic viability and compatibility (prosperity), and contextual and aesthetic impact (place).
