Aluminium & steel in Rointe heating products

The quality of the materials Rointe use to manufacture their products is important. That’s why they only work with first-class materials that offer optimum comfort to their client’s homes and lives.

Nowadays there are many materials in the development and manufacture of radiators, such as steel, cast iron, stone or aluminium. Read on to discover why Rointe choose aluminium and steel for their electric radiators and towel rails.

Electric radiators that use injection moulded, high-purity aluminium

Aluminium radiators are the best electric heating products out there because they have a high resistance to corrosion, faster heating times with high heat output, are lightweight and recyclable.

Aluminium is one of the most abundant materials on the planet, ranking third behind the other common chemical elements, oxygen and silicon. It is the most widespread metal on earth, covering about 8% of the earth’s core mass.

Aluminium is light, durable and functional. You can find it in almost every aspect of your daily life. From the house you live in, the car you drive, the trains and planes you use for long-distance travel, the mobile phones and computers you use every day, to the food and drink containers in your fridge. Around 75% of the aluminium produced in the lifetime of the aluminium industry is still in use today.

Aluminium offers a rare combination of valuable properties:

• Lightweight – almost 3 times lighter than iron.
• Durability – almost as strong as steel.
• Ductile – easy to process, does not become magnetised and easily forms alloys with other metals.
• Corrosion-resistant – thanks to a naturally occurring thin surface layer of oxide.

It is also an excellent conductor of heat, making it an excellent material for the manufacture of radiators, with thermal conductivity of approximately 209 W/(m*K).

Aluminium can be easily processed by pressure, both hot and cold. It can be rolled, drawn and stamped. It also visually resembles silver, both in its colour and in its great ability to reflect light, which makes it extremely attractive to users. Aluminium can also be easily painted on, which is why we’re able to offer a wide variety of colours and finishes with our DESIGNLINE heating range for D Series.

Aluminium does not catch fire and, unlike plastics, is non-toxic. It is also more cost-effective than other metals and materials and can be easily recycled, making it great for the environment.

All these properties make it the ideal raw material for use as a Rointe radiator body. In addition, its manufacturing process (casting) makes it possible to obtain the unique, patented design of our radiators.

So why do we use steel for our electric towel rails?

The choice of steel for the manufacture of the towel rails is mainly due to their function compared to that of radiators. Radiators are designed to stabilise the ambient temperature of a room and towel rails are designed to raise the temperature of the bathroom and, essentially, to dry towels.

Therefore, steel is the ideal material for this type of heating product because it has lower thermal conductivity and tends to dissipate less heat and instead accumulate it on the surface. So, it’s able to reduce the relative humidity of the environment and, of course, that of the towel we want to dry. Steel is also one of the strongest metals on the planet and is non-corrosive, making the towel rails durable and easy to maintain.

Once installed and positioned in a bathroom, your towel radiator will be susceptible to water splashes, so it makes sense to use a rust-resistant material like steel in our towel rails. Exterior rusting can also be caused by the use of harsh cleaning products, scratches to the body and constant contact with wet and damp towels and the environment. So Rointe use steel (and even stainless steel in certain ranges) to offer maximum resilience and protection for your towel rail.

Steel also retains heat and goes on giving out heat for a long time, adding up to real savings over the long-term.

All of Rointe’s products and components, including the electric heated towel rails, are made in Europe. In particular, the steel body, whose manufacture is a practical traditional process in which the tubes are welded one by one to the collectors. In addition to using a weldable alloy, it is essential that they have optimum resistance to humidity since they are designed to work in environments with high relative humidity (above 70-80%).

Rointe towel rails are the perfect complement for bathrooms of any size. They have nominal powers between 300 and 1,000 W, which helps the unit to heat up quickly and retain heat for longer.

The towel rails are available in four sizes and are easy to install with wall anchors close to the body. Rointe have also just released a new range of bathroom towel rails called SELECT.
