Client: Nottingham City Hospital
Contractor: AJ Floorcraft
Type of works: supply and installation of Polysafe Wood FX safety flooring.

The stylish timber effect and guaranteed slip resistance of Polysafe Wood FX sheet vinyl safety flooring proved the ideal combination for the refurbishment of the Bestwood Ward at Nottingham City Hospital.

Developed in response to growing demand for safety floors suitable for the decorative ambience in “front of house” areas, Polysafe Wood FX in a warm beech design has been installed by Derby-based flooring contractor AJ Floorcraft throughout the ward area, including corridors, lobby, landing and stairs.

Polysafe Wood FX is seen as especially suitable for areas where there may be a risk of water spillage, such as in hospital receptions, corridors, wards and general circulation areas – as well as being ideal for various areas in education such as within classrooms. The range is also designed to bring safety with style to retail spaces, commercial premises and within social housing applications. This safety performance can also be carried over to back of house areas where safety flooring is traditionally installed and where there are risks of regular spillages, such as in bathrooms, toilets and changing rooms.

In common with all Polysafe ranges, Polysafe Wood FX complies fully with HSE Guidelines, providing sustained slip resistance throughout its guaranteed 10-year life and achieving 36+ on the RRL Pendulum wet test (Slider 96/Four S rubber) with a surface roughness of 20 microns and above.

The sustained slip resistance of Polysafe Wood FX is achieved by the incorporation of clear aluminium oxide throughout the 0.7mm clear wear layer, with aggregates specially formulated to ensure excellent clarity of design. Providing a choice of eight dramatically authentic timber styles, Polysafe Wood FX is available in a sensible 2m width and comes complete with the reinforcement of polyurethane for improved cleaning and maintenance.

As well as compliance with HSE Guidelines, Polysafe Wood FX meets the performance requirements of EN 13845, the European Norm for safety flooring, and in terms of abrasion resistance is classed as a Group T product – achieving the Use Area Classification of 23/34/43.

Fully tested to fire safety standard EN13501-1, Polysafe Wood FX is certified as Class Bfl-S1, achieving the criteria EN ISO 9239-1 8kW/m2 and the mandatory requirement of EN ISO 11925-2 pass.

The product has been independently tested and results demonstrate that it inhibits the growth of MRSA on the flooring. An effective cleaning regime is, however, the most important defence against infection.
