Birmingham International Airport, Birmingham
Client: Birmingham International Airport
Architect: Pascall and Watson Architects
Contractor: Laing Construction Design & Build
Type of works: installation of Royal tempered glass sliding closures
This was a challenging project by Laing Construction Design & Build. The project was an extension to the main terminal that had to be constructed and integrated within the existing terminal without interruption to services.
The terminal extension included some 30 retail units of varying size and configuration, constructed in phases over a 12 month period.
Working closely with Laing's site team and Pascall and Watson Architects, SimFlex's Royal tempered glass sliding products were specified on all the units. Different layouts were achieved using curved and straight overhead track configurations. This system was selected for flexibility and minimal stacking space. The stacked grilles or closures are all concealed out of sight behind wall panels when not in use.
