Burgess CEP metal ceiling for AIB Office

Burgess CEP metal ceiling for AIB Office

About the project

In the early 1970’s AIB relocated their headquarters to Merrion Road in Ballsbridge. The development was one of the country’s first campus style business complexes. In 2003 Robinson Keefe & Devane were appointed as the architects for a new building project. The brief was to design office accommodation to effectively double the population of the bank centre from approximately 2000 to 4000 employees.

The solution

Burgess CEP worked throughout the project with the architect and came up with the specification for a metal ceiling clip-in system based on a 500mm x 500mm module in the general main areas.

The main reasons for choosing this system was that the ceiling needed to be easily accessible to allow regular maintenance to the chilled beams behind.

In order to achieve the required performance levels of the chilled beams, we introduced a new perforation pattern into their portfolio being D3136, which was a 3.1mm hole achieving a 36% open area.

As well as providing our clip-in system, we were asked to provide a solution for a bulkhead around the glazed atrium areas. In this instance we created a faceted shaped bulkhead that also allowed the easy installation of up lighters to create the architects desired aesthetic.
