Canopies UK provided Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court care home with one of their coliseum-style Connekt canopies.
Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court care home in the seaside town of Porthcawl, Mid Glamorgan provides residential care, nursing and dementia support for more than 70 residents.
Run by RMBI, the home has extensive grounds, including sheltered courtyards, an on-site beach and a sensory garden.
RMBI were refurbishing the front of Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court with a new entrance and wanted to make sure that the area sheltered guests, visitors and residents from the elements.
The home wanted to create a dry area for its residents who use wheelchairs, as they often got rained on as they got picked up and dropped off at the front door.
The new area needed to complement the new entrance and be a space where vehicles could pull up right next to.
Given the dimensions of this canopy, Canopies UK specified the coliseum version of their Connekt canopy, which enabled them to:
1. Keep the supporting posts to a minimum – RMBI wanted to keep the area looking neat with few obstructions for wheelchair users and less able-bodied residents and guests. Canopies UK therefore adapted their design to incorporate this key factor.
2. Create an accident-free zone – they needed to make sure there was no risk of vehicles hitting the canopy’s front posts, so they were set slightly back and away from the walkway, whilst still letting the roof project out to the end of the path.
The home’s residents no longer have to worry about the rain or snow as the home’s brand new entrance has been finished off in style.
