Celotex Insulation Fits The Bill At New Superhome

Celotex Insulation Fits The Bill At New Superhome

At the sustainable redevelopment of a 1960s home in Bath, property developers ST8 Ltd ensured every product and material used would provide energy efficiency, quality and long term performance. When selecting insulation for the ground floor and two flat roofs, the company turned to the UK’s market leader in PIR insulation, Celotex, helping the new-look Chelsfield House to gain ‘SuperHome’ status and achieve an outstanding carbon reduction of 76%.

Located in Lansdown, Bath, Chelsfield House was originally built in 1965 and was in a state of disrepair when acquired by ST8. With more than 25 years’ experience in redevelopment, the company set about transforming the inefficient property into a warm and inviting 21st century home with the integration of state-of-the-art technology and environmentally friendly practices.

To create a highly energy efficient building envelope and complement the ground floor’s underfloor heating and two sedum-topped flat roofs – ST8 required versatile and high performance insulation that would help to deliver significant carbon savings.

Specifically targeted for floor applications including underfloor heating systems – where the higher density and compressive strength of the board prove valuable to the installer – Celotex FF4000 proved ideal for the ground floor application. Celotex XR4000 insulation boards were specified by ST8 for their reliability, workability and outstanding thermal performance.

Available in a range of thicknesses from 110mm to 200mm, the thickest PIR insulation on the market, Celotex XR4000 insulation boards are suitable for a range of applications including roof, wall and floor systems. They include low emissivity foil facings giving improved thermal insulation with cavity air spaces.

As both Celotex FF4000 and Celotex XR4000 boards are highly workable, the installation of them is simple. Durable and lightweight, the boards can be easily moved around site without risk of damage, and they can be simply cut-to-fit with hand tools on site.

“We’re always looking at ways to make greener, more sustainable homes,” commented Nick Sandy, owner of ST8. “We believe that insulation and ventilation is the starting point for every sustainable development so it’s crucial to get these elements right. At Chelsfield House, Celotex insulation offered us outstanding versatility whilst meeting our high standards of thermal performance.”

Chelsfield House provides an exemplar of sustainable redevelopments and has become one of only 95 SuperHomes in Britain. The specification of Celotex insulation by one of the country’s leading green developers emphasises why Celotex is the market leading PIR insulation provider and is the first choice with architects, specifiers and designers.
