CEMEX Paving Solutions were chosen to provide a Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) Solution for a new £1bn housing estate access and haul road in Chelmsford, Essex.
Tamdown Construction were the main contractor employed by Countryside Zest to build a new housing estate located in the Essex Countryside.
Within the specification it was stated that an asphalt road would be required. However, there was concern about poor ground conditions and ground movements. The equipment that was being transported along the haul roads was also large and heavy, which again meant that asphalt roads may not be up to the task ahead.
CEMEX Technical Experts visited the site and suggested RCC as a solution due to its high strength and durability. This was the first time that CEMEX has installed RCC for a housing development site in the UK.
CEMEX successfully produced and installed 1,825m3 of RCC materials across the scheme and the haul roads were completed to client satisfaction.
During the works wider areas were installed to allow passing points for heavy duty vehicles including dumpers and tracking machines. RCC material was laid throughout the rural site which included a series of temporary bridges to span local culverts.
