CEMEX supplied a high quality mortar solution for the construction of a new neighbourhood woven into the adjacent connecting streets of Brent.
Spring at Stonebridge Park is one of the final projects to be developed within the regeneration of the Stonebridge Estate in the London Borough of Brent.
This £16.6m development, constructed to Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, provides a total of 117 new homes which wrap around a central communal garden and a diverted feeder canal that runs through the heart of the development.
The entire project is made of a single brick type which has lightness, warmth and a strong texture. The brick is detailed to give a sense of mass to each distinct building type.
Given the significance of the brick design to this project, the selection of a high quality mortar was equally as important.
CEMEX M4 Braintree Light Silo Plus, a highly specialised Dry Silo Mortar containing white cement and admixtures, was specified for this project. This product would be aesthetically sympathetic to the selected brick type and emphasise the texture of the facing brickwork.
Given that the project was located in a heavily built up residential area of Brent, the CEMEX extended retarder ‘Silo Plus’ mix was used. This enabled bricklayers to batch mortar in the afternoon ready for use the following day.
This in turn allowed the site team to commence laying bricks first thing in the morning, without having to start up noisy machinery disrupting neighbouring residents.
CEMEX were able to deliver a reliable and collaborative on-site supply solution, tailored to emphasise the texture of the facing brickwork.
