CEMEX provides a durable surface for a new energy plant

CEM-Pave roller compacted concrete was used as a direct replacement in infrastructure roads, car park and storage areas for a new energy plant.

CEMEX originally received an enquiry to supply and install a 100mm asphalt pavement at a busy energy from waste development. Following consultation with their technical team, they were able to offer a value engineered roller compacted concrete (RCC) solution, providing financial savings and operational efficiencies.

CEMEX were tasked with constructing infrastructure roads, storage areas and car parks to facilitate the construction of the energy plant. The challenge was to provide an alternative pavement design that combined the strength characteristics of concrete with the speed of asphalt construction.

CEMEX’s technical team proposed the use of 100mm of CEM-Pave, CEMEX’s Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) product. Their innovative solution provided a durable, rut- resistant surface more suitable for heavy plant movements.

CEMEX set up their mobile batching plant to supply and install the CEM-Pave material across the site without issue achieving the required 100mm of surfacing.

With quicker curing times than conventional concrete, the client was able to utilize the roads and working areas sooner. Construction of the £160m EFW plant could commence unhindered with a long-term durable pavement solution.
