Type of works: design, manufacture and supply of Polyflor vinyl and rubber flooring solutions.
Leading commercial vinyl flooring manufacturer, Polyflor, has provided the complete flooring solution for the Chadderton Wellbeing Centre in Oldham.
The first of its kind in the area, the Centre brings together a range of organisations to deliver key council services under one roof at local level.
A Community 1st Oldham LIFT (Local Improvement Finance Trust) project, the facility was designed by blue sky architects in Stockport and the main contractor was Carillion. Four different Polyflor products were installed throughout the Centre by Manchesters PCS Flooring, each demonstrating the necessary characteristics to enhance the look and feel of a specific use area.
Flooring is an important finishing material because it has such a big impact on the overall look of a building, commented Chris Russell of blue sky architects.
Polyflor vinyl and rubber products helped us achieve our vision for the build while providing the necessary hard-wearing, safety and maintenance benefits required for the day-to-day running of a busy community facility.
Initially visitors are greeted in reception by Polyflor Classic Mystique PUR, featuring a striking inlaid motif, designed by an artist and local community groups.
The motif was designed into the flooring by Polyflors Expressions Design Service which uses water-jet cutting techniques to create precise shapes and styles for inlaid decoration.
Classic Mystique PUR features Polyflors unique cross linked, UV cured polyurethane reinforcement (PUR) which makes it easy to clean and facilitates a low cost, lifetime polish-free maintenance regime, perfect for a high traffic entrance area. The PUR significantly reduces chemical usage and reduces water usage by up to 55% compared to traditional maintenance procedures. Classic Mystique PUR also achieves the highest possible BRE A+ Global rating (ENP 336).
The elegant café was in need of a more design-focussed floorcovering and Polyflors Expona Aged Indian Apple wood effect luxury vinyl tile provided the perfect balance of aesthetic quality and ease of cleaning thanks to its own polyurethane treatment.
Slip resistant Polysafe Astral PUR was specified for the washrooms and WCs. As with all Polysafe products, Astral PUR fully complies with HSE and UK Slip Group Guidelines to give sustainable slip resistance throughout its guaranteed life, achieving 36+ on the Pendulum wet test (Slider 96/Four S rubber) with a surface roughness of 20 microns and above.
The incorporation of Polyflors PUR technology also means that Polysafe Astral has inherent maintenance benefits and can achieve cost savings of up to 60% over a 15 year period when compared to untreated safety flooring using a micro mop maintenance regime. The product is BRE A+ rated for major use areas.
No wellbeing centre would be complete without a gym and Polyflors rubber Saarfloor Noppe Stud Tiles were installed in this high impact, high use area. In striking Cobalt Blue, Polyflors Noppe Stud Tiles provide a highly durable surface and contribute to acoustical impact sound reduction.
