D&D deliver 17 signature towers for Trago Mills

Design & Display Structures have been appointed to design, manufacture and install a £1m+ 4,500m2 GRP architectural cladding package to 17 Trago Towers for the £40m retail and leisure facility in Merthyr Tidfil, its first ever Welsh location.

Averaging 20m tall the 17 tower modular cladding kits will be designed by D&Ds engineers and factory fabricated off site in fully finished condition ready to be shipped to site for fast track hoisting and fixing to the primary steelwork structures located around the building perimeter.

Two of the towers will be habitable and enhanced accordingly with thermal insulation and double glazing. The GRP rainscreen cladding will simulate a variety of features with stone banding, vertical quoins and lead roll roof.

Three types of towers are required for the project, each with its particular interface conditions with the main retail building to deal with. The tallest at 22.3m and 5m square on plan will be clock tower with a balcony feature, all topped off with a flag pole carrying the Trago banner.

Tower cladding installation works are programmed to commence end of Spring 2017.
