Contractor: Brent Carpet Company
Type of works: supply and installation of Polysafe Wood FX sheet vinyl safety flooring.
The elegant Digby Trout Restaurant at the RAF Museum in Hendon, London has been fitted with 200m2 of Polysafe Wood FX sheet vinyl safety flooring, providing a combination of slip resistance and style.
Installed by London-based Brent Carpet Company in public dining areas at the museum, Polysafe Wood FX was developed in response to growing demand for safety floors suitable for the decorative ambience in front-of-house areas.
Finding an attractive appearance with vital safety and slip resistance in one flooring isn't easy, says Anita Willis, General Manager. But in Polysafe Wood FX we've found the ideal flooring for our restaurant. The Silver Wood effect is very modern and creates a welcoming feel to our Museum visitors.
Polysafe Wood FX is seen as especially suitable for areas where there may be a risk of water spillage, such as dining areas, as well as in receptions, hospital wards, corridors and in classrooms and general circulation areas.
The range is also designed to bring safety with style to retail spaces, commercial premises and within social housing applications. In addition, this safety performance can be carried over to back-of-house areas where safety flooring is traditionally installed, and where there are risks of regular spillages, such as in bathrooms, toilets and changing rooms.
In common with all Polysafe ranges, Polysafe Wood FX complies fully with HSE Guidelines, providing sustained slip-resistance throughout its guaranteed life and achieving 36+ on the RRL Pendulum wet test (Slider 96/Four S rubber) with a surface roughness of 20 microns and above. As per HSE Guidance, this means the flooring is categorised as having low slip-potential in water wet pedestrian areas.
The sustained slip-resistance of Polysafe Wood FX is achieved by the incorporation of clear aluminium oxide throughout the 0.7mm clear-wear layer, with aggregates specially formulated to ensure excellent clarity of design. Providing a choice of eight dramatically authentic timber styles, Polysafe Wood FX is available in a sensible 2m width and comes complete with the reinforcement of polyurethane for improved cleaning and maintenance.
As well as compliance with HSE Guidelines, Polysafe Wood FX meets the performance requirements of EN 13845, the European Norm for safety flooring, and in terms of abrasion resistance is classed as a Group T product, achieving the Use Area Classification of 23/34/43.
In addition to Polysafe Wood FX being 100% recyclable, vinyl safety flooring achieves a generic BRE Global A+/A Rating in the Green Guide to Specification, for retail applications. Further details of Polyflors environmental credentials in areas such as recycling, energy reduction and waste avoidance can be found at www.polyflor.com/environment.
Fully tested to fire safety standard EN 13501-1, Polysafe Wood FX is certified as Class Bfl-S1, achieving the criteria EN ISO 9239-1 ≥8kw/m2 and the mandatory requirement of EN ISO 11925-2 pass.
