GAH Coldstream Accumulator for Suffolk barn conversion

GAH Coldstream Accumulator for Suffolk barn conversion

A recent prestigious barn conversion in Suffolk has proved to be a perfect example for the installation of the GAH Coldstream water accumulators.

The static water pressure on site was good at 3 bar, however the flow rate from the mains was poor at less than 20 litres per minute. With the installation of four new high performance showers in the property, each requiring supply in excess of 15 litres per minute, the option of running all four showers simultaneously was not possible just from the available mains flow.

The installation of the GAH Coldstream Accumulator solved this dilemma, providing sufficient flow to all showers, while allowing the mains to cover the supply to cisterns and basins at the same time and delivering balanced flow of both hot and cold water.

Assuming a worst-case scenario in which all four showers run simultaneously for an average of 10 minutes, the house would need about 600 litres of water available in the accumulator. With 3 bar of mains pressure available to fill the accumulators one could expect two thirds fill in the accumulator tanks.

So, GAH were looking for a solution to offer 800 litres of accumulator volume to store about 600 litres of water. The head space at the loft where the tanks were sited was tight, resulting in GAH’s recommendation to install 4 x 200 litre tanks in series.
