Home extension benefits from LG Air Source Heat Pump

When John and Claire decided to add a sizeable single storey extension to their home in Surrey, it was clear their heating system needed an upgrade.

So, after significant research and help from the LG distributor, they chose a 5kW LG Standard Plus wall mounted, single split, air source heat pump to provide heat in cooler months of the year and the facility for air conditioning in the warmer summer months.

The extension is a generous 5m x 6m with a large glass roof light and bi-fold doors that open onto a patio and into the garden. The air source heat pump was selected because it provided the low carbon, energy efficient heating the couple wanted, but also the added bonus of cooling when it was needed especially as John and Claire planned to use the new area for entertaining.

We liked the sleek indoor unit particularly,” said Claire. “It’s attractive and not obtrusive in any way. It blends in perfectly on a white wall and being mounted so high up on the wall, it allows for a freestanding cabinet to sit underneath it quite comfortably.

What about the outdoor unit. Is that less attractive? “Not at all,” Claire says. “It sits neatly underneath the upstairs bathroom window – unless you knew it was there you wouldn’t notice it because it lays back from the protruding extension, keeping it out of sight.

LG asked what attracted them in particular to this solution.

As I said, I’m not a fan of underfloor heating – we have dogs and they need unheated floor areas in warmer months to keep cool,” continues Claire. “Radiators seemed a little too obtrusive and we would have had to replace our boiler to provide the added ‘oomph’ we’d need to heat this sizeable room as well – a significant added expense.

The LG air source heat pump ticked all the boxes and more for us. I liked the ability to control the temperature remotely via the embedded wifi and the LG ThinQ app which we can use, that will anticipate what we need and when. I like the technology and the simplicity of its use. We also often use the comfort air setting.

The new air source heat pump was installed by local installer Chris Canty from Energair Services from Sydenham in South London and supplied by LGCC – one of the leading LG distributors.

We were really happy with Chris and the work he did for us,” says Claire. “He was pleased with the units we asked him to install and was impressed by the ease of installation and the quality of the kit. As well as keeping the installation area really tidy he gave us an exceptional walk through of the users manual and how to operate the controller. It was an ‘A1’ installation and we’re already really pleased with it.
