A spectacular lighthouse in Ireland has been transformed and is shining brightly again thanks to the use of Johnstone’s robust masonry paint.
Johnstone’s Trade were approached by the Commissioners of Irish Lights to improve the condition of Youghal Lighthouse’s walls and the railings.
Decorator, Tommy Flanagan, said: “Johnstone’s Trades range of masonry paints were the most suitable for this kind of project”. The products specified included Johnstone’s Stormshield Pliolite Masonry, a solvent based paint that was applied on the exterior walls of the lighthouse to provide a smooth matt finish in Brilliant White.
The Pliolite Masonry formulation is specifically formulated to give excellent adhesion to difficult surfaces as well as being enhanced with additional resins to improve performance against the tough weather conditions. It can also be applied in temperatures as low as -5oC and is rain resistant within 20 minutes of application.
To complete the makeover, the metal railings of the lighthouse were painted in Johnstone’s Steel & Cladding Semi-gloss Top coat in Signal red. Due to its coastal location, metal surfaces in particular are subject to heavy rusting and breakdown as a consequence of exposure to salt from the atmosphere.
The Lighthouse has now been restored and the exterior will be protected from any further damage thanks to Johnstone’s Trade.
