Kestrel window and door systems for ambitious office block conversion

Llanelli based Atcost Windows (Wales) Ltd won the contract to manufacture and install Kestrel Aluminium window and door systems for the redevelopment of Oriel, formerly an office block in Port Talbot.

The scheme has been designed by Powell Dobson Architects in consultation with the Design Commission for Wales. It was undertaken by Hacer Developments in partnership with Pobl Group, formerly Gwalia.

It is part of a wider £35m investment programme to build new homes, improving existing properties, provide space for new businesses and create new transport and communication links.

Kestrel Aluminium Systems worked closely with Atcost Windows (Wales) Ltd to ensure the successful delivery of their part of the redevelopment project. The contract saw the installation of the Kestrel Aluminium 60mm casement window system with polyamide thermal breaks. Used in conjunction with low U-value double glazed units the homeowners can be sure that their new homes are safe, secure and energy efficient. Additionally, large fixed light windows, dual colour powder coated in a range of RAL colours were included to striking effect.

The Kestrel curtain walling system specified created an impressive entrance to the building. The system is zone drained and fabricated as a ladder frame system. Individual panels were made separately to assist in ease of transportation and constructed on site.

DDA compliant Kestrel thermal commercial door systems were also installed. Designed for high traffic footfall with slim line profiles that minimise sight lines, the doors are PAS 24 accredited with internal beads for added security.

Kestrel Aluminium Systems offers technical support to customers during all aspects of a project and Atcost Windows utilised this service during this impressive build. The material quotes were run through the in-house estimating department, and onsite support was provided to ensure the fabrication and smooth installation was achieved.
