Liquid membranes for Royal Porthcawl Golf Club

Liquid membranes for Royal Porthcawl Golf Club

Alchimica’s Hyperdesmo products were used to renovate the roof of the club house at the Royal Porthcawl golf course.

Being right on the South Wales coast meant that the house had endured years of punishment from the harsh winds and weather and had started to look really weathered and worn.

This was a 900m2 job to restore the roof to the red colour it used to be. The first step was to repair the cut edge corrosion that had occurred. After rubbing down the metal work it was primed and Hyperdesmo Particular was applied to it.

When using liquid waterproofing materials it’s really important to clean the surface properly. On a job like this, so close to the sea, there may be sand deposits, debris, damage because of seagulls, so making sure the roof is cleaned thoroughly is vital.

Because of the size of it, Alchimica’s Microsealer 50 primer was used. Microsealer 50 is great for bigger jobs as, despite it taking longer to properly set, it offers a longer timeframe for a top coat to be applied.

The Hyperdesmo waterproofing topcoat gets applied next. It’s easy to apply with a brush or, in this case, a roller. They added a thickening agent to it because of the pitch of the roof to make sure that it sticks properly – on a flat roof you wouldn’t need it.

The Hyperdesmo used for this is grey but the finish needed to be red. Once the topcoat had cured they used ADY-E in red over the top of it.
